During my time at John Mills I participated in Band ( Playing Saxophone), Library Helper Club, Book Club, After School Art Helper Club, BASEC, Safety Patrol, Yearbook, amongst others. I was often at the school early or stayed after to participate in these things. It was here where I developed my passion in advocacy for students. In 5th grade, I would write letters to the Principal as to why the students deserved a vending machine. My active involvement during my time at Mills led to me earning the nickname, " The John Mills Mayor", given to me by the former principal and many other staff members. These formative years at Mills shaped who I am today, in pursing a leadership role that will allow me to give back to my community.
During my time at Elm Middle, I contributed to the "Cougar Cash Store," volunteered in the library, participated in NJHS, enrichment a-lab, amongst others, all while building my leadership and advocacy skills. My experience was greatly shaped by three influential teachers: Ms. Caninci, who affectionately called me "The Mayor of Elm," Ms. Mesi, who gave me the nickname "D," and Ms. Fuentes, whose example of perseverance through hardship inspired me to persist despite challenges. Their guidance helped mold my leadership and resilience, lessons I carry with me today.
.At EPHS, I found my stride in advocacy and leadership, serving as class president, DECA president, Environmental Club president, and founder of the Mental Health Awareness Club. I also held roles such as Science Club treasurer, CP Math TA, student council member, Key Club member, and GSA member. These positions allowed me to make an impact and grow as a leader, supported by the trust of my peers, staff, and teachers.
My time at EPHS was shaped by a supportive group of teachers and staff, including Ms. Kiska, Mrs. Andrews, Ms. Alhman, Ms. Rubino, Ms. Gallo, Ms. Acosta, Ms. Guillen, and Mr. Otha. The teachers demonstrated what it means to be effective and caring, while the support staff made my involvement possible. Their guidance helped shape my high school experience and leadership journey.
