Hello, I’m Damian Alfonso Pereson-Estrada. I live on the north side of town near John Mills Elementary, where my educational journey began. I had the privilege of attending John Mills, Elm Middle School, and Elmwood Park High School (EPHS) as a student, and last year, Elmwood Elementary as a student Teacher-Observer. Having experienced our district’s schools firsthand from multiple perspectives, I bring a unique and well-rounded understanding of our education system.
I am the proud grandson of Mexican immigrants on both sides of my family, who arrived in America in the early 1970s. As the oldest of four children, I come from a family deeply connected to District 401. My mother, Jessica, and my chosen father, Jose, have instilled in me the value of education and community. My younger sister recently graduated early from EPHS, another is still attending, and my three-year-old sister will soon begin her journey at John Mills. Many of my relatives have attended, are currently attending, or will be attending our district’s schools in the years to come. With these strong family ties, I am deeply motivated to advocate for better academic resources, increased support for students and staff, enhanced mental health services, and a greater recognition of the district’s growing diversity.
Education has always been a central part of my life. Raised with an educator in the family—my Grammy Lola—and now preparing for a career in educational law, I understand the crucial role our schools, teachers, and community play in shaping the future. From a young age, I loved playing school with my cousins and always knew I wanted to be a force for positive change in the education system.
My experiences have given me a strong sense of responsibility to support and advocate for the well-being and success of all students in our district. I am eager to give back by serving on our local school board and working to create a brighter future for our schools and community.
